They were successful many decades, producing everything from tractors and automobiles to home appliances and the Cub Cadet lawn mowers. International Harvester's downfall started in the 1980s. In order to stay in business, they sold the Ag business to Tenneco, Inc in 1984. In 1986 Harvester changed the corporate name to Navistar International Corporation (having sold the International Harvester name and the IH symbol to Tenneco Inc. as part of the sale).
